Sandy Acre Flower Farm Beginnings
Introduction
Welcome to Sandy Acre Flower Farm, where every bloom tells a story. Our small-scale flower farm is dedicated to growing fresh, seasonal and sustainable flowers. We believe that flowers have the power to brighten days, celebrate moments, and bring people together. With a commitment to eco-friendly practices, we nurture our blooms with care, ensuring they are as kind to the earth as they are beautiful.
Whether you are looking for market bouquets, special event florals or just a little floral happiness, we’d love to share the beauty of locally grown flowers with you. Follow along as we grow, bloom, and spread joy - one petal at a time!
From Boardrooms to Bloom Fields
For years, life was a balancing act - corporate deadlines, family responsibilities, and the ever-present pull of a dream waiting to bloom. As a full-time working mom and wife, I built a career in corporate America, but no matter where life took me, flowers were always part of my story. From my love of visiting gardens to fresh cut blooms on my desk or home, they were my quiet reminder of beauty, growth, and the joy in simple things.
In my forties, I finally decided to take the leap - trading presentations for soil and strategy meetings for planting and watering schedules as a side hustle. With no formal background in business or farming, just a deep love for gardening and belief in the power of flowers, Sandy Acre Flower Farm was born.
This farm is more than just a business - it’s a passion, a fresh start, and proof that it’s never too late to chase a dream. I’m here to grow beauty, learn from mistakes, share joy, and bring a little more nature into everyday life. Welcome to this new chapter - I can’t wait to share it with you!
Establishing the Farm
With just one acre of land and an even smaller budget, I knew I had to start simply - working with the space I have, growing flowers from seed, and finding creative ways to make this dream a reality. Luckily, I’m not doing it alone. My husband, always my biggest supporter, is as handy as they come - able to build just about anything! From raised beds to trellises and everything in between, his skills will help turn this backyard farm into something bigger than I could have imagined.
While trying to plan and establish a flower farm in Zone 8a has its challenges, I wanted to take advantage of our longer growing season. I’ve sown hundreds of seeds and planted even more corms and bulbs to ensure I have early Spring flowers available. Sweet Peas, Snapdragons, and Ranunculus are to name a few varieties to be featured in my bouquets.
In the coming weeks I will then sow the summer loving varieties such as Zinnia, Dahlias and Sunflowers. I also started from seed Eucalyptus as filler along with Yarrow, Gomphrena and Celosia which if I succession plan accurately, should bloom through Fall.
Community Impact
Beyond just growing flowers, I want Sandy Acre Flower Farm to have meaningful impact on our small town. Whether it’s bringing fresh, local blooms to community events, donating flowers to nursing homes or hospitals, or simply brightening someone’s day with a bouquet, I believe flowers can create connection and joy. My farm is about more than just business - it’s about cultivating beauty, kindness, and a sense of togetherness.
Vision
And this is just the beginning. My dream is to grow Sandy Acre Flower Farm into something even more magical - a place where people can experience the beauty of flowers firsthand. I envision a mobile flower bar, bringing fresh flowers to markets, events and celebrations. I dream of offering U-pick experiences, where families and friends, and flower lovers can stroll through the fields and gather their own bouquets. And I see flower workshops, where people can come together to learn, create, and connect through flowers.
This Journey is Just Beginning. . .
Every seed planted, every flower that blooms, and every bouquet shared is part of a bigger story - one that’s still unfolding. Whether you’re here to enjoy the beauty of local flowers, join in on the experience, or simply follow along as this dream grows, I invite you to be a part of the journey. Because the best stories - like the most beautiful flowers - are just waiting to bloom.
Stay tuned. There’s so much more to come!
